The Election Commission (SPR) has launched a website that allows you to register as a voter. You start by signing up for a user account on the SPR website and filling up a form. You’ll also need a valid phone number and an email address, alongside a front image of your MyKad, as well as a selfie with it.
On a related note, a Bill is being passed to allow for automatic voter registration. That said, SPR chairman Azhar Azizan Harun urged those who have not registered as voters to do so now. The actual process of getting the automatic voter registration system could take a year and a half or more. This means that the earliest it will be ready is in early 2021. With the new online registering method, this should no longer be a problem. If you live in Sarawak, then it’s especially important that you don’t wait for the automatic registration either. The next Sarawak state election must be held by 2021, while the 15th General Election will be taking place in 2023. (Source: SPR via The Star [1], [2])
