In the case of the newly unveiled Mix 4, it comes with an under-display camera featuring a design that Xiaomi calls Camera Under Panel (CUP) which apparently has been in development for the past five years through an investment of USD77 million (~RM325.5 million).
Through a combination of hardware and software, Xiaomi claims that the CUP design allows the 20MP selfie camera on Mix 4 to be virtually invisible to the user’s eye but still able to maintain its photography as well as video quality. At the same time, the area of the screen that surrounds the camera is also able to provide excellent viewing quality and continue to have a pixel density of 400 ppi. Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ together with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1-based storage, the Mix 4 comes with a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display that also has a 120Hz refresh rate alongside a 480Hz touch sampling rate. The Dolby Vision and HDR10+ screen is also protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
Other than that, the Mix 4 also comes with a ceramic unibody although this is not the first time the company has turned to ceramic to craft a Mix device. Back in 2017, the Mi Mix 2 Special Edition also features a ceramic unibody design as well. Despite the ceramic unibody, Xiaomi said that it managed to keep the phone’s weight in check. At 225 grams, this means that the Mix 4’s weight is within the same group as per Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra (229 grams) and Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max (226 grams).
On its back, the Mix 4 relies on a 108MP camera as its main photography weapon alongside an 8MP telephoto camera with a periscope lens that has 5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom capabilities. The rear camera module also contains a 13MP ultra-wide camera that apparently has an optical free-form lens. Other features that Xiaomi has packed into the Mix 4 also includes ultra-wideband (UWB) support and Harman Kardon tuned speakers. Completing its general specifications is a 4500mAh battery which supports 120W wired fast charging that allows Mix 4 to be fully charged within 15 to 21 minutes.
The phone also supports wireless chargers too with a power rating of up to 50W which could refill Mix 4’s battery juice between 28 to 45 minutes. At the moment, Xiaomi has yet to reveal any plans to bring Mix 4 to Malaysia but over in China, it will be released into the market on 16 August with a starting price of RMB4,999 (~RM3,259).
