This fascinating feat is made possible by utilising transparent OLED technology (TOLED), which embeds all the processing units for the display in the TV’s base stand instead of its back panel. The Mi TV LUX offers a 55-inch 1920 x 1080px FHD transparent screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, 150,000:1 contrast ratio, and DCI-P3 93-percent colour spectrum support. Under its hood is a custom MediaTek 9650 chipset paired with Xiaomi’s AI Master Smart Engine image processing, which offers over 20 optimisation algorithms and dedicated optimisation for 5 major use scenarios. Software-wise, TV is running on the company’s newly released MIUI TV 3.0.

In the audio department, the Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition features two 8W speakers with Dolby Atmos support, along with Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD. It also includes Xiaomi’s AI Master for Audio, which automatically selects an audio mode by identifying the type of content that’s being played. Other than that, the company’s new TV comes with dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, three HDMI ports, two USB ports, an AV port, and an Ethernet port. It weighs at 24.96kg, and is just 5.7mm in thickness.

At this time, the Xiaomi Mi TV Lux Transparent Edition is only planned to be released in China starting from 16 August 2020, and is priced at CNY49,999 (~RM30,208). The company has not announced any plans to release this new TV in other countries. While the concept is pretty cool, it’s actually hard to find a reason to own a transparent TV for our daily media consumption. Still, it would be an awesome device to impress your guests when hosting a party or gathering at your own home – if you can afford it, that is.  (Source: Xiaomi [1] [2])
