Hence, it is not surprising that the new model offers some performance upgrade over its predecessor. As a comparison, the SN550 offers a sequential read speed of up to 2400MB/s while the old model maxed out at 1700MB/s. There is some difference in terms of sequential write speed as well since the SN550 goes up to 1750MB/s as opposed to SN500 that maxed out at 1450MB/s although this improvement only applies to the 500GB models. For the 250GB model, the SN550 is much slower at 950MB/s as the older SN500 can go up to 1300MB/s. Another notable difference between the SN550 and its predecessor is that Western Digital has now included a 1TB option into the lineup. Price-wise, the 1TB model goes for RM 589 while the 500GB and 250GB options can be obtained for RM 355 and RM 219 respectively. However, Western Digital will be offering them at a much lower price of RM 539, RM 319, and RM 199 respectively to celebrate the official release of WD Blue SN550 SSDs in Malaysia. This deal will be available starting from tomorrow onwards until 20 March at WD’s Lazada store, so head on there for further details.
