The list which is called the Opensignal’s Global Rising Stars in general highlights the top 30 most improved telcos throughout the globe. In the latest edition, it is based on the differences in their performances during the second half of 2020 and 2019 across five categories. U Mobile’s name is listed in four of these categories including Video Experience, Download Speed Experience, 4G Availability, and Voice App Experience. Opensignal stated that the improvement rates that the telco managed to achieve in these categories are 36.6%, 44.7%, 11.7%, and 3.7%, respectively. On another hand, unifi Mobile is being listed in the Video Experience and Download Speed Experience categories as well. The TM’s cellular arm apparently managed to increase its video capability by 13.1% while its customers have apparently experienced an improvement of 27.6% when it comes to downloading speed.
Meanwhile, Digi made it to the list as one of Opensignal’s Upload Speed Experience Rising Stars. This is due to the telco’s improvement rate of 26.8% which is more than double the average global rate for this particular category. As mentioned earlier, the Opensignal Global Rising Stars list is based on improvement rates and not performance numbers. In other words, while the listing showed that these Malaysia telcos have been working to improve their services which is a good thing, users still need to manage their expectations as on-ground experience may vary from one person to another. Furthermore, we don’t think that just being listed in Global Rising Stars is enough though. All local telcos certainly need to continuously improve themselves to the point that they are good enough to join the Global Leaders list, if not the Global Winner award itself. (Source: Opensignal.)
