Keeping with Sony’s tradition, the Xperia 5 II is more or less identical to the Xperia 1 II, albeit with a couple of differences. Namely, the phone’s Full HD+ HDR OLED display instead of a 4K display on the Xperia 1. While the display resolution has been reduced, Sony has been gracious enough to load it up with many of the visual enhancements that defines an Xperia smartphone.
Those enhancements, by the way, include the 21:9 CinemaWide aspect ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 240Hz Touch scanning rate that, in practice, should provide a smoother, more accurate scrolling and gaming experience on the device. Of course, despite its display size, the Xperia 5 II is only 68mm wide and just 8mm thick. Internally, the phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 5G SoC, 8GB RAM, and a 4000mAh battery that also supports fast-charging via Qualcomm Quick Charge. For connectivity, the phone is also fitted with the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem, while storage varies between 128GB and 256GB.
Just like the Xperia 1 II once more, the Xperia 5 II’s main camera module comprises three sensors and yes, they’re tweaked with Sony’s Alpha camera series technology, plus ZEISS optics. Again, like its big brother, all three sensors are 12MP in size, but each has different focal lengths and tasks: specifically, these sensors are a 24mm wide, a 70mm telephoto, and a 16mm ultrawide. Around the front, the selfie camera is an 8MP sensor. Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a dedicated shutter button, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Of course, it’s just not an Xperia device if it doesn’t have Sony’s audio enhancements and tweaks; mercifully, Sony is thoughtful enough to include its DSEE Ultimate, as well as Hi-Res and Hi-Res Wireless Audio 14 support with the Xperia 5 II.
