Besides having an 8K screen, there are some other features worth noting about the TV. For one thing, the Q900 series TV is considerably “slim”. Well, to be precise, it’s actually a little on thick side when compared to the non-8K TVs on the Malaysian market. However, considering the pixel density the TV’s packing, it’s a comparison point many of us are content with overlooking. The Q9000 series is also near blemish-less; rather than have the back or side of the TV brandishing all the input ports (like most TVs do), Samsung uses the same single wire, Invisible Connection, connected to a dedicated (and proprietary) box that houses all the necessary HDMI and audio ports. The latter obviously being in place for expanding the home entertainment system with one of Samsung’s equally impressive Q Series soundbars.

As these things usually go, there are some caveats to owning the TV. First among these drawbacks, and unsurprisingly, is its price. At RM299999, this 98-inch TV is undoubtedly one of the most expensive pieces of AV technology we’ve come across to date. At that price, you could purchase a two-bedroom apartment outside the Klang Valley. The other issue that comes with owning a TV such as this is the available content; besides the visual demos that were being shown off, there just isn’t any consumer-ready 8K content readily available. That said, the TV is capable of intelligently upscaling video content ranging from 720p to 4K resolution up to the TV’s native resolution. Via its on-board 8K Quantum processor.

Owning this 98-inch 8K TV also takes time, literally. Samsung tells us that because of its sheer size, the TV is built to order and only upon confirmation of purchase. Once confirmed Samsung will then proceed to assemble the TV at its respective factory. All in all, the process take between six to eight week, from assembly to delivering it to your doorstep. On another note, the TV is heavy; its weight is upwards of 70kg. And while we’re certain modern wall brackets are capable of effortlessly sustaining that sort of weight, you may just want to set this TV down on a sturdy table instead.

The 98-inch Q900 Series 8K TV is already available for purchase via Samsung’s online e-commerce partners, Lazada, SenHeng, and 11Street.
