After Disney acquired Fox earlier this year, it was widely speculated that the film may never see the light of day, especially after Dark Phoenix turned out to be a massive critical and financial failure. Well, in a surprising turn of events, it looks like there just might be some good news. A couple of film journalists have noted that there was another test screening of a brand new cut of The New Mutants over the weekend and that audiences who got the chance to catch it actually liked it. However, do take everything with a pinch of salt as highly notable sources have yet to share similar information.
The more credible of the two sources, Jacob, editor-in-chief of Discussing Film said:
Heard it’s decent, seems this new cut adheres more to Josh Boone’s original vision for New Mutants of a scarier horror comic book movie. — Jacob (@JacobDFilm) August 25, 2019 Thomas Polito of GWW also shared similar sentiments: https://twitter.com/thomas_polito/status/1165709366005252096?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1165709366005252096&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbr.com%2Fre-cut-new-mutants-movie-testing-well%2F Assuming that these sources are accurate, perhaps New Mutants won’t be such a crap show. After all, writer-director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) is a rather talented helmer. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. The New Mutants will supposedly hit theatres on April 2020.
