The news comes from an official announcement on the PlayStation Blog. No details were given as to why, nor when will the tech be made available to the PS5 after launch. All that was mentioned was that the tech itself is currently still in development.
But on the flip side, nearly any pair of headphones will be able to make use of the Tempest 3D Audio Engine on the PS5 at launch. Of course, the company touts its own Pulse 3D wireless headset to be used with the feature. But it also goes on to say that headphones that you already own will still be able to make use of the feature, be they via USB or 3.5mm connections. Of course, the games themselves have to support the feature for you to make use of it. And it’s fair to say that all the PS5 launch titles support it. So for what it’s worth, if you have a pair of headphones, the feature is immediately accessible to you. (Source: PlayStation)
