UMORIE Graphene Technologies is the research and development subsidiary of ASP Pro who originally dabbled in mobile phone accessories but has since put more focus on battery development. It has previously converted a Yamaha Y15ZR (also fondly known as the Y Suku among local motorcyclists) into an electric bike which is another area of interest for the company. [Image: UMORIE / Facebook.]One of the advantages that a graphene-enhanced battery has over a traditional lithium-ion battery is that it can be charged much faster since graphene has higher electrical conductivity. Not only that, a graphene battery can also have a bigger storage capacity at a lower weight, and a longer lifespan. Even though the battery is still in the prototype stage, NMB and UMORIE are already planning to set up a joint venture to establish a production plant for it. While the exact rollout timeline has not yet been revealed by either party, this is a rather interesting endeavour given the rising popularity of hybrid and electric vehicles.
