According to the original plan, MCO was supposed to end on 31 March but it was then extended to 14 April. Through the confirmation today, the new end date for MCO has been set to 28 April 2020.
PM Muhyiddin stated that this decision was made based on the advice from the Ministry of Health and medical experts. Additionally, the MCO extension is meant to provide space for our medical personnel to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the country and in line with World Health Organization’s view that governments throughout the world should not stop their MCO or quarantine efforts too early. In his speech, PM Muhyiddin has also revealed that a limited number of economic sectors will be allowed to be operational in phases in order to lessen the stress on the country’s economy. These sectors will be selected by a special committee that is chaired by under the Senior Minister of International Trade and Industry, Azmin Ali as well as Senior Defense Minister, Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The chosen sectors which will be announced by the government soon and will have to operate under strict health and security guideline. As pointed out by PM Muhyiddin, the fight is still on, so please continue to practice good hygiene and stay home as much as possible throughout the MCO period.
