On that note, the Dimensity 720 is essentially a step down from the Dimensity 820, but on the plus side, it is a 5G chipset and comes with several features. It is, first and foremost, a 5G chipset, with MediaTek also saying that it is the most power-efficient chipset in its range. The Dimensity 720 also supports 90Hz refresh rate for displays, MiraVision HDR10+ video playback, integrated Voice Wakeup (VoW), and last but not least, a relatively flexible camera configuration. Allowing up to a single 64MP camera or 20MP+16MP dual camera sensors, followed by a range of AI-camera enhancements that is pushed through the chipset’s integrate AI Processing Unit (APU).

The specs of the Dimensity 720 are expected, if not unsurprising; the chipset is an octa-core processor, running in a 2+6 CPU configuration, with the two CPUs cores being large ARM Cortex-A76 chips and the remaining CPU being ARM Cortex-A55 modules. Moreover, the chipset can support LPDDR4x memory at frequencies up to 2133MHz and maximum capacities of 12GB. On the subject of 5G, the chipset supports global sub-6GHz bandwidth in Asia, North America, and Europe. At the time of writing, MediaTek did not specify when the Dimensity 720 will be available or which devices will be the first to receive the new chipset. (Source: MediaTek [1] [2])
