Speaking to French press in an interview, Yu also confirmed that the P40 series will run on the Android 10 operating system. However, like the recently released Huawei Mate 30 series, the upcoming flagship will still lack Google Mobile Services (GMS) due to the current trade issues with the US government. To recap – as an alternative to the absence of GMS, the company introduced the Huawei App Gallery on the Mate 30 which features licensed applications that could also found on Google’s Play Store. This is thanks to the Android 10 OS being an open source platform, which allows compatible third party applications to run on the system – provided that the application is registered to the Huawei App Gallery, and not part of GMS such as GMail or Chrome. It’s most likely that the upcoming P40 series will feature this as well for the convenience of its users. The CEO also stated that the Huawei P40 series will feature improved battery life and an even better camera setup, but did not go into specific details. Huawei will likely drop more hints about the phone as its launch date draws closer. The upcoming Huawei P40 and P40 Pro is slated to be unveiled in a special event in Paris next year in March.
