First shared by Zuhril Azhar in the Malaysia Electric Vehicle Owners Club (MyEVOC) Facebook group, you can rent Hyundai Kona Electric from the company soon. According to Shanmugam Kalimuthu, the Head of Operations for Sime Darby Rent A Car Sdn Bhd (SDRAC), Hertz Malaysia has just received the first batch of its Kona e-Lite recently.
As noted in the specs sheet on Hyundai Malaysia’s website [pdf], the e-Lite variant is equipped with a 39.2kWh battery which allows it to travel up to 305km according to the WLTP standard. Equipped with Type 2 and CCS2 charging ports, it takes around 6.5 hours to charge the car via a 7.2kW AC charger although the charging duration can be significantly reduced to 47 minutes when charged using a 100kW DC charger. When it comes to speed, the Kona Electric e-Lite has a maximum speed of 155km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 9.9 seconds. It is also equipped with an infotainment system that has an 8-inch touch display with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto alongside a six-speaker audio setup.
Meanwhile, Shanmugam said that SDRAC is currently prepping up its Kona EV fleet to make them suitable for consumer rental which is expected to be available in early June. At launch, the availability zone will be in the Klang Valley. However, more details regarding the EV rental service such as the finalised rate and terms as well as exact availability areas will only be announced once Hertz Malaysia is ready to offer it to the public. So, expect to hear more from the company next month.
