The company says that the new service is its “first foray into its online grocery delivery service functioning from a fully functional and stocked dark store”. To clarify, a “dark store” is a retail distribution centre that caters primarily to online shopping. Basically, GrabSupermarket is the company’s own grocer and delivery service, unlike GrabMart which delivers products sold by third party markets and stores.
According to Grab, the service will boast a wide variety of household needs ranging from fresh produce, frozen and packaged food, beverages, household products, and more. The company added that GrabSupermarket aims to provide users with “a full online grocery experience with greater value and zero delivery fees”. Also worth pointing out that all deliveries for the service is done the next day after the order has been made. Users residing in the Petaling Jaya areas mentioned earlier can access the service via the Grab application, under the Mart category. The company is encouraging users who are trying out GrabSupermarket to also share their feedback in order to further improve the service. It has not revealed any plans to expand the service’s pilot program to other locations in Malaysia at this time. (Source: Grab [1])
