PM Ismail said that among those considered high-risks includes frontliners, immunocompromised individuals, and senior citizens with comorbidities. In addition to that, those who lived or work at long-term care facilities will also receive the booster shot.
While the statement did not include an exact rollout date, PM Ismail has noted that the booster shot will be provided to the high-risk group once the rate of fully vaccinated adults reaches the 80% mark. Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has also reportedly said that the rollout is expected to begin in early October. According to the national COVID-19 statistics website COVIDNOW, 78.2% of the adult population has since been fully vaccinated as of 11:59 PM yesterday. The site predicts that the 80% mark could be achieved on 21 September, which is generally in line with Minister Khairy’s estimated rollout date of the booster shot once you consider logistics, supplies, and other related factors.
