Gerak Malaysia was mainly being used to keep track of interstate movement especially between the specially arranged period of 7 to 10 May. However, now that the public are already able to travel interstate freely when the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) kicked in last month, both organisations have agreed that the app has since served its purpose.
Hence, they have now recommended users to uninstall Gerak Malaysia from their devices as the app will no longer be in active service after 31 July 2020. All of the private data that has been collected by the app will be handed over to the Ministry of Health (MOH) while the user’s movement records will also be destroyed. Subsequently, PDRM and MCMC have since insisted the masses to download the MySejahtera app instead which is equipped with a check-in feature that has been adopted by many premises throughout the country.
