As you’d expect, the new Garmin Vivosmart 5 packs a variety of upgrades over its predecessor. First off is its 10.5mm x 18.5mm acrylic-covered OLED touchscreen, which is 66% larger than the one offered by the Vivosmart 4. However, like the older model, it can only output visuals in mono, so don’t expect any colourful graphics or watchfaces. Meanwhile, found on the bottom of the display is a physical button for certain interactions. The Vivosmart 5 features a polycarbonate case and aluminium bezel, which is attached to a removable silicone strap. It is available in small/medium and large sizes that weigh approximately at 24.5g and 26.5g respectively. Being a fitness band, it also comes with 5 ATM water rating, which means you can definitely wear it for a dip in the swimming pool. According to its Malaysian website, Garmin is offering the new device in Mint, White and Black colour options for the small/medium size, while the large option – strangely enough – is only offered in Black. As pointed out before, the company’s latest fitness band does not come with ECG capability, but it does come with typical tracking functions for workout activity levels, sleep, menstrual cycles, blood oxygen levels, stress and so on. Besides that, it also comes with smart notifications, incident detection, as well as 14 activity modes such as cycling, swimming and so on. The device is also the first from the series to come with connected GPS, which enables it to log data of your runs or bike rides as long as it is connected to your smartphone via the Garmin mobile app. Garmin says the Vivosmart 5 is able to last up to seven days on a single charge, though enabling the pulse ox or sleep tracking features will lower this estimated value. For energy top-ups, packed along with it is a proprietary USB charging adapter and cable. The new Garmin Vivosmart 5 is available now at a suggested price of RM 730. Those interested may purchase it via Garmin stores and authorised retailers nationwide, as well as the brand’s official online stores on Lazada, Shopee and AECO e-store.
