The decision from the National Security Council today was something that has already been hinted by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin earlier this week. Meanwhile, to address the issue of disposable face masks that might be costly to some, Minister Ismail pointed out that the members of the public can produce their own mask.
However, they must make sure that the homemade mask meets the specifications from the World Health Organization (WHO). The minister added that the Ministry of Health will help clarify the specifications for homemade face mask very soon. In terms of implementation, the mandatory face mask regulation will take place starting from 1 August 2020 onwards, Failing to adhere to this regulation, you might risk facing a compound of RM 1000 or even jail time as stipulated under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act 1988.
With that, we would like to remind everyone that our fight against COVID-19 is far from over. So, you should not wait until 1 August to wear a face mask outside of your home. (Source: RTM live feed – [starts at 12:00 mark])
