Although its full specifications are still kept under wraps at this time, Canon did reveal that the new camera will feature a newly developed 35mm full-frame, back illuminated stacked CMOS sensor, paired with the brand’s DIGIC X image processor for high-speed readouts and continuous shooting at 30 frames-per-second. Also onboard is Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, a wide-range of autofocus functionalities, and a new deep-learning algorithm that enables for better head, eye and even torso detection. The EOS R3 is the company’s first ever mirrorless camera to feature eye controlled autofocusing technology. According to Canon, this new and improved version of this feature allows the AF frame to adjust according to detected movement of the user’s eye when shooting still images via the viewfinder. What this basically means is that the camera will automatically focus on a particular subject that you’re currently looking at within the frame. The last Canon camera to feature this technology was the EOS-3 which was released all the way back in November 1998. The camera is also the first from the EOS R series to feature an integrated grip body, similar to those such as the Canon EOS 1D X Mark III. The company added that it will also feature dust and water resistance in order to withstand various weather conditions. Being Canon’s latest flagship full-frame mirrorless shooter, the EOS R3 is expected to rival competitors such as the upcoming Nikon Z9 and the new Sony Alpha 1.
