Stephen Totilo of Axios shared on Twitter a slide during the call outlining the reason why. Essentially, it boils down to new leadership at Blizzard, and the company deciding that it needs more time to work on both games. The company gives the familiar line of “planning for a later launch … than originally envisaged”, with no estimated dates or windows.
— Stephen Totilo (@stephentotilo) November 2, 2021 The new leadership may be referring to the booting of J. Allen Brack as president, and the promotion of Jen Oneal and Mike Ybarra as co-leaders. Or it may instead be because, in a related development, Jason Schreier reports that Jen Oneal is stepping down, leaving Mike Ybarra as the sole leader of Blizzard. Which is all just a little ironic.
— Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier) November 2, 2021 At any rate, neither Overwatch 2 nor Diablo 4 will see the light of day for the foreseeable future. It remains to be seen if Blizzard will even give either of them a release date within next year. (Source: Stephen Totilo, Jason Schreier)
