The news agency claimed that the shift is imminent and stated that the first Mac powered by Apple’s own processor would debut in 2021. Sources familiar with the matter also mentioned that the company reportedly has at least three new in-house developed processors based on the A14 chip, as part of Apple’s “Kalamata” project.
The company’s alleged upcoming announcement is intended to give developers time to optimise their software for the new ARM-based architecture, the report added. Additionally, internal tests of the new generation of Macs have shown a significant boost in performance over their Intel-powered alternatives. The new architecture could result in thinner and lighter MacBooks models, on top of also powering desktop-based Macs computers. If Bloomberg’s report is indeed accurate, Apple will release more details regarding their new in-house ARM-based chip when WWDC 2020 commences on 22 June.
