The overclocker in question is the Chinese overclocker, TAKUKOU (TecLab_Takukou), and in this particular instance, he was using liquid nitrogen or LN2, to both rapidly and aggressively keep the 6800XT’s RDNA2 GPU…well, cool. Thanks to this, TAKUKOU was able to push GPU speeds up to a blinding 2.8GHz.

With those speeds, TAKUKOU then proceeded to break the 3DMark Fire Strike record with a score of 48890 points, although that score has yet to be validated at the time of writing. If and when it does receive said validation, that would basically dethrone the current champion – an overclocker known as SAFEDISK – who officially holds the record of 47725 points with an ASUS GeForce RTX 3090. Oh, and there’s visual evidence to prove TAKUKOU’s achievement, too. As exciting as achieving nearly 600MHz higher than the 6800XT’s maximum clock of 2250MHz is, it is important to remember that those speeds are currently only achievable with the aid of LN2. That said, TAKUKOU’s achievement with the card is still an impressive feat and to that end, we’re looking forward to what can be done with the 6900XT when it becomes available.
