The 3990X was announced earlier today and picked up by AnandTech. According to the in-depth tech site, the HEDT CPU will feature 64-cores, 128-threads, a 256MB L3 cache, and a TDP of 280W. To be extremely specific, the 3990X will effectively be the high-end equivalent of the AMD’s workstation-grade EPYC 7742 CPU. In turn, means that the CPU has a total of eight chiplets soldered on, with each chiplet running with 8-cores each. On top that, AnandTech says that, like the 3960X and 3970X, the 3990X will ship out with the same number of PCIe 4.0 lanes, which is 64.
Beyond its core count, L3 Cache size, and TDP, there’s still not a whole lot of information surrounding the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X. Sure, the slide does indicate that AMD intends on launching the CPU next year, but as when exactly still remains a mystery. And then there’s the price of the 3990X. AMD is clearly not going to release this particular information until it gives us a specific release date, but considering that the 3970X retails at more than RM8000, it’s not wrong to say that we’re expecting the 3990X to cost more upwards of RM9000 when it goes on sale next year.
