The idea that NVIDIA is prepping a “Ti” version of the currently existing RTX 2070 first appeared in a benchmark posted by Twitter use @momomo_us. The UserBenchmark page shows the benchmark results of an NVIDIA card, codenamed 10DE 1304. The result also shows the card running at a clockspeed of 1590MHz, and with 7.5GB GDDR6 memory. It’s the last bit of information that strikes us as odd; both the GeForce RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 run with an allotted 8GB GDDR6 RAM by default. Therefore, if this benchmark were to be believed, why NVIDIA would only give the rumoured RTX 2070 Ti less graphics memory is definitely a mystery.
This isn’t the first time an NVIDIA graphics card has ever carried an odd amount of graphics memory. Back in 2015, it was discovered that the brand’s Maxwell-based GeForce GTX 970 was only running on 3.5GB out of the 4GB GDDR5 RAM that was advertised. The discovery led to a class-action lawsuit being filed against NVIDIA in the US. The only difference in this scenario is that, unlike then, the stats on the UserBenchmark remains, as of now, unconfirmed.
Pricing of the card is also still trapped in a web of speculation. As it stands, a third-party RTX 2070 retails between RM2000 and RM3600. If the card is what the internet thinks it is, NVIDIA will most likely retail the card at an average of US700 (~RM2874). As usual, NVIDIA has not released any statement about the benchmark result, neither has it confirmed or denied its existence. Until then, it’s best to take this bit of news with a pinch of salt.
