The service was generally pushed under the spotlight after netizens noticed the photos of its meeting with Ahmad Idham on social media. Not only that, its objective to become an ethical streaming service seems to resonate loudly with the remark made by the leader of FINAS, who is also a well-known actor, director, and producer.
However, these pictures were posted back in September, so there is a high possibility that the association between Ahmad Idham’s remark and Aflix could be purely coincidental. Furthermore, Ahmad Idham has also clarified through Twitter that his remark which apparently called for censorship of content on digital platforms such as Netflix, was meant for the family-oriented seminar that he attended at that time. Meanwhile, very little is known about Aflix at the time being. That being said, a post on Aflix’s Facebook page by Fadzil Hashim, who is the Group CEO and Founder of Brainy Bunch, an acclaimed Islamic educational institution, stated that Aflix is a subsidiary under his company and is meant to cater to ethical content creators out there. Fadzil also stated pointed out that Aflix is self-financed by the company and is not yet being launched officially which explains why its website is rather sketchy at the moment. Regardless of the commotions, it is interesting to see that there is a local outfit is working to participate in this highly competitive segment. Not only that, the same goes for its focus on providing ethical content which I suppose more towards educational and religious subjects. Even though Aflix is skewed towards a very niche part of the market, having more options is always good for the market.
So, let’s see how Aflix is going to make its mark among consumers in Malaysia.
